Who We Work With
We work with job seekers. Once we have identified their requirements and interests, we provide the resources, tools, support, advice or training they need to obtain and maintain employment. Through our self-employment programs in Brazeau County, Camrose, Drayton Valley,Fort Saskatchewan, Red Deer, Rimbey, Rocky Mountain House, Olds, St. Paul, Vegreville and Wetaskiwin we work with and prepare qualified applicants as entrepreneurs.
Local employers are essential to our success, so we work closely with them, seeking their input and advice, and inviting their participation in our programs or on our advisory boards. Listening to employers and understanding their businesses is key to helping jobseekers find work.
We work with Alberta Human Services and Human Resources and Skills Development Canada to provide services which are free to job seekers who qualify.

How We Help You
Job Seekers: Our approach is client-centred and holistic. By client-centred, we mean working from your starting point, assessing your employment strengths and skill gaps, then adapting programs to optimize your progress. By holistic, we mean taking into account all of your life circumstances. This could involve exploring aspects of your life that may be affecting your ability to find and keep employment. The result will be individualized, flexible and responsive services that are tailored to your needs and will help you achieve your goal. While our focus is on finding you a job, we can also connect you with community resources to address issues that might be affecting your long-term employment success.
In our employment centres, you will find all the services you need for job search and career planning. We can give you access to our computers for research and writing resumes and cover letters. You can search for a job through our databases and postings on job boards and in reports. Our staff will assist you at every step. They know the local labour environment and what employers are looking for.
We offer career planning and personal development workshops at all locations. We may also be able to arrange occupational training, for example, in Standard First Aid, H2S, WHMIS, or computer courses such as Simply Accounting or office software applications. Staff in our Jasper office can help you with Employment Insurance and Social Insurance applications.
Employers: We work closely with the local business community. Our purpose is three fold: to engage employers in our program activities, to explore partnership opportunities, and to obtain information about employers’ current and emerging labour needs, expectations and work practices. With this information, we are better able to match jobseekers to employers. It also helps us to ensure that graduates of our programs are suitably trained and prepared to work locally. We prepare and place our clients with employers at no cost to the employer.
Also free of charge is our job board, where employers are able to post their vacancies. Job boards are located prominently – either in our employment centres or at the offices of Alberta Employment and Immigration. Our internal system ensures that the ads are up-to-date. When the closing date arrives, we check with the employer before removing or reposting an ad. The high volume of traffic to our offices – by our clients, other people referred to us, and the general public – makes job boards an easy and efficient way to reach jobseekers.
In several locations, we have established an advisory board of representatives from businesses and community organizations. These boards advise us of employer, labour market and community issues, enabling us to provide support or take other action as needed.
